We are pleased to present one of Samaroli's latest releases bottled this year in an extremely limited edition of only 328 bottles. Samaroli's Glen Garioch 2011 was aged in a single first-fill ex-bourbon hogshead cask. However, older does not necessarily mean better. Indeed, this bottling is a masterclass in balance and finesse. No single element dominates, but a wealth of sandalwood, orchard fruits, tobacco and vanilla delicately intertwine with spices and fresh herbs on the nose and palate. After ten years of maturation, the single malt Scotch whisky presents itself with a harmonious complexity, richness and an air of nostalgia. It is also one of the most impressive bottlings we have discovered from this historic distillery.
Tasting notes
The bouquet is subtle. Sandalwood, orchard fruits, tobacco and vanilla, delicate spices and fresh herbs are present on the nose.
Flavours begin to unfold after a while. Wood and tobacco smoke followed by subtle hints of mentholated and almost metallic tones, all these elements contribute to the structure of this malt. Gentle flavours of caraway, cinnamon and cardamom come through on the palate.
The finish slowly reveals the spicy heart of cedar and sandalwood before coming to a worthy conclusion with nobler woody notes.
Set amidst the idyllic, pastoral beauty of the Aberdeenshire countryside, Glen Garioch has one of the longest histories of any active distillery in Scotland, dating back to 1797, making it one of the oldest distilleries in the country. This fertile environment combined with an abundance of the purest natural spring water creates perfect conditions for a classically refined Scotch whisky. The profile of Glen Garioch's Highland Single Malt is therefore distinctly balanced and refined, with an elegant structure that shows well at any age.
